Laura Linney, best known for her strong but fragile characters, is one of the most celebrated American actors of the present. Born to a renowned playwright's father but being raised by a single mother who made a living as a nurse, she began to take an interest in theater while working with her father during the summer and eventually pursuing a degree in acting initially in Brown University and then at Juilliard School. In just two short years after graduation, she launched her Broadway-based career. The following year she made her debut in TV and film. Since then, she has appeared involved in numerous films, television plays and stage productions. She has been awarded numerous prizes throughout her career. These include the four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. However, in spite of the array of awards acting has been her primary passion and she has continued to appear both on stage and screen.
